The agoge was a system in ancient Sparta were young boys were taken from their mothers and trained to be some of the most advanced warriors in history.

Modern special forces are based off of a number of things from the agoge system.

One of the main principles is that training happens around 24 hours a day. There is no off time per se, one is constantly being prepared for anything.

SF teams the world over have to deal with a variety of situations at any hour of the day or night.

One of the mottos that’s commonly used is “Anything Anytime Anywhere”.

Boys were made to compete for everything, shelter, clothing, food, status, respect, authority, etc…

They were able to fight bare-handed with nothing at a very high level, so depending on what type of weapon they were able to access made them that much more powerful.

Training happened at a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

A modern agoge is looking at how to bring forward the wisdom and strength of the ancient ones into a modern-day system that needs to deal with legal liability, modern laws and different levels of risk management.
